How LEDCrawl came to life
LEDCrawl began as a small idea born from my lifelong passion for lights and animation. Years ago, I started creating RGB pixel Christmas light shows for my house—the kind that sync perfectly to music. That hobby turned into a full creative obsession, combining electronics, soldering controller kits, and programming to make the shows come alive.
Over time, that same curiosity for lighting and tech led me to build my first P5 LED Matrix. I originally just wanted a way to bring retro gaming graphics to life using bright, colorful LEDs. I set up that first retro-themed display, and almost immediately, my coworkers took notice. They kept asking if I could build a ticker for them, too. What started as hand-building a few custom displays for friends at work so they could showcase dynamic, real-time information—like sports scores, weather, and news—quickly snowballed. Seeing their reactions and how much they loved having the wide vibrant screens, made me realize this was more than just a personal hobby; it was a refined product I wanted to share with a wider audience.
My background in coding played a massive role in shaping what LEDCrawl would become. Back in the early 2000s, I built a site called makeawebpage.com that helped people design simple web pages before social media even existed. That early experience taught me the value of making technology approachable, fun, and empowering for the end user.
Today, LEDCrawl has grown far beyond those first few units built for colleagues, but the core mission remains exactly the same. The business brings together all of my passions—software development, 3D design and printing, and pure creativity. Each ticker is hand-built in Chesapeake, Virginia, blending precision hardware with custom-coded software to keep your displays smooth, vibrant, and always up to date. Every unit ships fully tested, packaged by hand, and backed by ongoing updates and support.
The goal has always been simple: to craft something professional, reliable, and visually striking—gear I’m proud to install on my own wall. LEDCrawl is a reflection of years of tinkering, learning, and a genuine love for the glow of LEDs.
